On monday, March 23rd 2009 7.30 p.m, the premiere of Jüri Reinvere’s “REQUIEM” will take place in Helsinki, at the archive-cinema “Orion” (Eerikinkatu 15).
Reinvere’s “REQUIEM” is a modern adaptation of this eternal musical genre. Airy and evocative music-and-text composition is written for solo flute, electronics and four voices with voice-over reading Requiems text. “REQUIEM” is a timeless message from the dead to the living – of destruction and of resurrection of life. This work also weighs against the contemporary virtuoso Flute repertoire and with its quaint new form the Requiem-genre itself.
The first performance of ”REQUIEM” in Helsinki will be complemented by a film specially mastered for the occasion by Australian film-director Catherine Jarvis. The film is made from extraordinary and rare, beautiful and brittle Estonian documentary clips from 1911-1945, many never before seen.

Jüri Reinvere is a new-era Estonian-cosmopolitan composer living in Berlin, ever-changing and borders-widening, being successfully last years merging his music with his own English-written poetry.
