An Opera by Märt-Matis Lill Premiered at NYYD Festival

A new opera Exploration of the Indies by Märt-Matis Lill (libreto by Jan Kaus, staged by Mart Koldits) will be premiered at NYYD Festival that began on Tuesday, 20 October. The extraordinarily formed chamber opera that is based on enormous literature material draws lines between some of Märt-Matis Lill’s favorite subjects – late Middle Ages, the extermination of the culture of American Indians and the bottlenecks of western culture. Actors, singers, jazz musicians, choir and orchestra participate in this opera side by side.

Additionally Ensemble U: premieres a dance performance Harmony by Mart Kangro and Taavi Kerikmäe at Kanuti Gildi SAAL. Estonian National Opera programmes in case of NYYD Festival again the opera The Formula of Love by Mari Vihmand (staged by Liis Kolle).

In 2009, NYYD Festival focuses on music theatre and multimedia projects. Main composers of this festival are Heiner Goebbels (Germany) and Georges Aperghis (France), the festival has multimedia works in the programme by both of them. Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne from Switzerland will bring Eraritjaritjaka by Goebbels, Paris IRCAM ensemble will present Machinations by Aperghis. The Shout from London will sing Flam, a chamber theatre work by Orlando Gough.

Information on Exploration of the Indies is available at the website of Estonian Concert; also general information on the NYYD Festival can be viewed at the Estonian Concert’s website.
