On Friday 16 October, composer Erkki-Sven Tüür celebrates his 50th birthday. The most considerable event among the celebrations is the concert that will be held in the Estonia Concert Hall on 16 October at 7 pm in contribution of Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir conducted by Arvo Volmer.

Symphony No. 7 Pietas by Tüür will be premiered in Estonia, world’s premiere of which was on 18 July, performed by hr-Simphonieorchester and the choir of Norddeutsche Rundfunk conducted by Paavo Järvi. In September, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and May Festival Choir with Paavo Järvi performed the symphony also in USA. Pietas is dedicated to His Holiness Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso. In addition to the most recent symphony, Insula deserta and Symphony No. 3 by Tüür will be performed at the jubilee concert.

The concert dedicated to Erkki-Sven Tüür’s jubilee will be broadcasted live on Klassikaraadio. Additionally ETV will show a recording of the Piano Concerto (Thomas Lacher, ENSO, Olari Elts) from 2007 on 16 October at 1.15 pm. On 16 October at 9.40 pm, ETV will also show the recording of the opera Wallenberg from 2008, staged in Estonian National Opera by Dmitri Bertman. On 15 October at 11.05 pm, in the pre-evening of the jubilee, Vikerraadio broadcasts a programme Persona from 2007 where Marje Lenk talkes to Tüür about his life and music.
