Composers’ Union Selected Works for ISCM Festival 2012

The board of Estonian Composers’ Union selected six works that were sent to represent Estonia at the ISCM (International Society for Contemporary Music) World Music Days 2012 in Belgium. The selected works are composed by Helena TulveTatjana KozlovaMärt-Matis Lill,René EespereKristo Matson and Ardo Ran Varres.

The works sent to ISCM festival were following:
Helena Tulvesilences/larmes for soprano, oboe and glasses (2006)
Tatjana KozlovaHorizontals for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, percussion, piano (2010)
Märt-Matis LillWhen the Buffalo Went Away… for reciter, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, percussion (2007)
René EespereLudus tactus for piano (2008)
Kristo MatsonR.E.M for bass clarinet, bariton electric guitar, percussions (2010)
Ardo Ran VarresBerlin Hauptbahnhof for solo cello, tape and live-electronics (2008)

From these works, ISCM council will select works that will be performed at the ISCM World Music Days 2012, which will be held during ten days in October 2012 in six Belgium cities: Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Leuven and Mons.

This year, World Music Days 2011 in Zagreb had Canon for upper voices (2010) by Tõnu Kõrvits in its program. Also, the audience could hear several times between concert program the sound installation …wachet auf… die Stimme… – Eine Choralfantasie György Ligeti in memoriam for hundred alarm clocks (2007) by Ülo Krigul. In addition to pieces selected by Estonians, Birds and Shadows for violin and string orchestra (2008) by Mirjam Tally represented Swedish composers – as Tally has lived in Gotland since 2006.
