On Friday 16 October, composer Erkki-Sven Tüür celebrates his 50th birthday. The most considerable event among the celebrations is the concert that will be held in the Estonia Concert Hall on 16 October at 7 pm in contribution of Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir conducted by Arvo Volmer.

Estonian Music Days 2008

Estonian Music Days take a look at the rich body of work of Estonian composers. EMD festival programme has traditionally included the most recently written pieces as well as the more ‘established’ works which form the foundation of Estonian contemporary music. The best of local musical force unite to deliver a fine selection of new works of various shape, from symphonies to music videos to chamber music. As a special theme, EMD 2008 reaches out to both young and new audience through unusual formats, such as a special Festival game, interactive multimedia piece for high shool students or through exciting big events such as the Young Musicians Gala Concert.

Estonian Music Days 2007

12.-18. April
On Thursday, 12. April, the annual Estonian Music Days 2007 festival will open with the TORMIS CIRCLE at the Estonia Concert Hall. In 2007, the EMD is proud to present Veljo Tormis as the festival composer.

During the festival week, the audience will be able to enjoy 26 concerts and altogether 41 premiers in concert venues varying from churches and universities to theatres and warehouses.

“Tallinn – Aegviidu”, music by Märt-Matis Lill

“Tallinn – Aegviidu”
Present performance features the journey of two people form point A to point B. The train, the relationship between man and woman, the range of reality and irreality is the recurrent theme. This everyday subject is interrupted by idle representations and sound arythmics.
Performance includes dancing.
Kaja Lindal has graduated Tallinn Choreography School, worked in theatre Vanemuine and has collaborated with various choreographers and companies. In 2004 she received Philip Morris Estonia dance award as ‘Emerging choreographer of the year’ for her work ‘Kiri maalt’.

Estonian Music Days 2006

24.-31. March
On Friday, March 24th the annual festival “Estonian Music Days 2006” will begin with a choral concert at the Tallinn Song Stage. EMD 2006 is proud to present Helena Tulve as the festival composer and to host a composer back in his homeland after sixty years – Udo Kasemets. Eight days with 18 concerts will bring 58 premieres to the listeners in concert venues varying from churches and factories to universities and art galleries.

Concert with Arvo Pärt in XX Winter Olympics in Torino

On Wednesday, 15th of February Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Estonian Symphony Orchestra and the conductor Olari Elts will represent Estonia in the cultural program of XX Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.
At 9 pm at the Torino Cathedral the pieces by Arvo Pärt will be presented to the audience with the world premiere of a work specially written for the Olympics, La Sindone. Thereto one will hear Arvo Pärt’s Arbos, a piece written 30 years ago as well as two works from the more recent years Cecilia, vergine romana and Da pacem Domine.
