Andrus Kallastu’s Multimedia Work Performed at the Nordic Music Days in Iceland

Composer Andrus Kallastu‘s multimedia work ATEMLOS can be heard in the programme of the most important Nordic contemporary music festival Nordic Music Days. The performance takes place on the opening day of the festival, on 6 October 2011 in brand new Harpa concert hall in Reykjavik, Iceland. Hopefully, the performance of Kallastu’s work marks the beginning of a long-term co-operation between Estonian Composers’ Union, which is an organiser of the festival Estonian Music Days, and Nordic Music Days.

Tallinn 2011: Estonian Music at Euroradio Music Week

From 7-13 March 2011, Klassikaraadio, the classical music channel of the Estonian radio will broadcast 10 concerts that are part of the European Capital of Culture 2011 Tallinn Programme. The Euroradio week dedicated to Estonia is full of different events and gives a good overview of various aspects of the Estonian music scene, its leading ensembles and soloists, choirs and orchestras. The Euroradio music week includes premiere of Awakenings by Erkki-Sven Tüür, also his Symphon No. 8. Additionally, music by Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Rein Rannap, Ester Mägi, Kuldar Sink, Eduard Tubin, Artur Kapp and Tarmo Lepik are found in the concert programmes of many Estonian collectives and musicians.

Algavad Arvo Pärdi pidunädalad

17. augustist 26. septembrini kestab Arvo Pärdi juubeli puhul Nargen Festivali alafestival „Pärdi pidunädalad“. Festivali alustab Pärdi teostele „Miserere“ ja „In Principio“ loodud etendus „Alguses oli“, mille lavastaja on Peeter Jalakas ning dirigent Tõnu Kaljuste. Etenduses teevad kaasa Von Krahli teater ning selle näitlejad Riina Maidre ja Mart Koldits, Segakoor Noorus, Segakoor Cantus, Nargen Festivali koor ja Eesti Riiklik Sümfooniaorkester. Vokaalsolistid on Andrea Brown, Hilliard Ensemble’i liikmed või Marianne Pärna, Tiit Kogermann Raul Mikso ja Uku Joller.

Urmas Sisask 50

9. septembril tähistab 50. sünnipäeva helilooja Urmas Sisask. Juba 13. augustil esietendub Suurel Munamäel helilooja Urmas Sisaski 50. sünnipäeva puhul rockmuusikal “Kalevipoeg kuningaks”. Muusikaetenduse lavastaja on Priit Valkna, lavakunstnik Iir Hermeliin, muusikaline kujundaja Urmas Sisask ning muusikajuht Rasmus Puur. Osades on Katrin Valkna, Lauri Kink, Sepo Seeman, Jaanus Mehikas, Johannes Veski, Päär Pärenson, Joonas Parve, Ajjar Ausma jt. Kokku mängitakse etendust 9 korda: lisaks esietendusele 14.. 15., 17., 18., 19., 20., 21. ja 22. augustil. Etendused algavad kell 19.

Spectacle with Music by Margo Kõlar Premiered in France

On Sunday 24 January, a musical spectacle Ilmatar, Song of the Origins (Ilmatar, le chant des origines) will be premiered in France (Guebwiller, Alsace). The spectacle was adapted for stage by Lionel Parlier and Marti Ilmar Uibo, based on Finnish national epos Kalevala and using the metric translation by Jean-Louis Perret. Uibo is also the artistic and musical director of the play, the music has been written by Estonian composer Margo Kõlar.

An Opera by Märt-Matis Lill Premiered at NYYD Festival

A new opera Exploration of the Indies by Märt-Matis Lill (libreto by Jan Kaus, staged by Mart Koldits) will be premiered at NYYD Festival that began on Tuesday, 20 October. The extraordinarily formed chamber opera that is based on enormous literature material draws lines between some of Märt-Matis Lill’s favorite subjects – late Middle Ages, the extermination of the culture of American Indians and the bottlenecks of western culture. Actors, singers, jazz musicians, choir and orchestra participate in this opera side by side.
