Estonian Music Days festival passes on sale

First festival passes of Estonian Music Days are on sale at Piletilevi. In 2014 Estonian Music Days (EMD) focus on symphonic large scale works. The festival will be held from 5-11 April 2014 in Tallinn. The Estonian Music Days Festival dates back to 1979 and focuses on the most recent music by Estonian composers. In 2014 the festival celebrates its 35th anniversary, the programme includes musicians from various genres and brings together several art forms.

Psalm of David Competition Won by Pärt Uusberg

At the closing concert on 10 February, the jury chose Pärt Uusberg with Psalm of David No. 121 to be the winner of the competion Psalm of David. Second Prize went to Mari Amor and her Jehovah Hath Reigned, He Hath Put on Glory and Third Prize to Martin J. Sildos (Psalm of David No. 146). The jury also decided to give out two special prices: to Tõnis Kaumann for By the Rivers of Babylon and Evelin Seppar for Psalm of David No. 88.

A Work by Tatjana Kozlova Chosen for ISCM Festival

The work by Tatjana Kozlova, Dimension of Quiescence for saxophone and percussions was chosen for the program of this year’s ISCM festival. The work was written for the Estonian Music Days 2009 in co-operation with Tarvo Hanno Varres, accompanying a video.

Composers’ Union Sent Six Works for the Next ISCM Festival

On 8 October, the board of Estonian Composers’ Union chose six works that were sent to represent Estonia at the ISCM (International Society for Contemporary Music) World New Music Days 2010 in Sidney, Australia.

The works sent to ISCM festival were following:
Tauno Aints Steps for bigband (2004)
Galina Grigorjeva Nature Morte for chamber choir a cappella (2008)
Tõnis Kaumann Long Play for big band (2009 revision)
Tatjana Kozlova Dimension of Quiescence for saxophone and percussion (2009)
Tõnu Kõrvits La folia for harpsichord (2009)
Helena Tulve To Night-Travellers, the Light… for cello and piano (2009)

Estonian Music Days 2006 – final concert

March 31st, 7 pm, Culture Factory Polymer

Due to technical reasons the final concert of Estonian Music Days will take place at Estonia Concert Hall instead of Culture Factory.
