Elis Hallik’s “Aegis” Opens Bilbao Symphony Orchestra Concert Led by Kristiina Poska
On February 6 and 7, conductor Kristiina Poska will lead the renowned Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, BOS) opening the concert with “Aegis” by Estonian composer Elis Hallik. The piece was created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, symbolizing a protective shield.
Elis Hallik’s 2018 composition “Aegis” was recently released by Schott Music, the world’s oldest music publisher. On January 17, the piece was performed at Opéra Berlioz in Montpellier, France, presented by the Montpellier Orchestra, also under Poska’s direction.
The evening’s soloist is internationally acclaimed South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, who will perform Erich W. Korngold’s Violin Concerto. The concert will conclude with Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 3, considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Romantic symphonic music. This symphony embodies deep emotional contrasts and dynamic musical storytelling, highlighting Brahms’ compositional brilliance.
Founded in 1922, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra is one of Spain’s leading orchestras. The concerts will take place at the Euskalduna Palace, a venue in Bilbao celebrated for its modern architecture and diverse musical programming.
