The Estonian Composers’ Union supports Ukraine’s independence and freedom. Thoughts are with Ukrainians and Ukrainian colleagues.
Märt-Matis Lill, the Chairman of the Estonian Composers ‘Union, declared a statement to the Chairman of the Ukrainian Composers’ Union, Igor Shcherbakov.
Dear Igor Shcherbakov and Ukrainian composers and musicologists,
with utter grief and sorrow, the Estonian composers are following the tragic events unfolding in Ukraine right now. The tyrants and thugs of this world must be astonished and surprised how much power and stamina the free and proud people of your country have right now, despite being face to face with one of the most formidable armies in the world. We admire your courage, your resilience and your pride in your freedom and unique culture and we support you every step of the way in your fight against tyranny and brutality. The battle of the European soul is right now fought in the streets of Kyiv. We are with you in this fight, because it is also our fight, it is also our national soul, which is at stake.
We know, that brutality cannot win in the end.
The beauty and nobility of your spirit will prevail.
Long live Ukraine!
