Ayşe Pınar Özaslan, born in Ankara, Turkey in 1995, is a composer based in Tallinn. She began her musical education at the age of 9 as a violinist and, with a growing interest in music theory and composition, went on to study composition at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory. Recently, she completed her Master of Arts in the field of composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Prof. Toivo Tulev. Throughout her career, Özaslan has collaborated with prominent musicians like Vambola Krigul, Iris Oja, Talvi Hunt, Kristjan Kannukene, Toomas Vavilov, and Eladio Aguilar. She has also worked with esteemed ensembles and orchestras, including the Revelia String Ensemble, EMTA Sinfonietta, and the EMTA Symphony Orchestra. Her compositions have earned her recognition and awards, particularly for her choir and trio works, and have been featured at major music festivals such as the Baltic & Estonian Music Days, müriaadFEST, and Sound Plasma Festival.
Her body of work spans from solo pieces to orchestral compositions, drawing inspiration from diverse fields like philosophy, linguistics, nature, art, and psychology. She continuously seeks to expand her artistic expression, experimenting with innovative sounds, textures, and unorthodox playing techniques.
More recently, Özaslan has focused her research on preserving her endangered cultural heritage, Circassian music. Her dedication to this cause has had a profound impact on both the Circassian community and the Caucasian Federation, revitalizing interest in this musical tradition. Her artistic vision continues to push the boundaries of sound, tradition, and experimentation, positioning her as a distinctive voice in contemporary music.
