On November 1st, musicologist Saale Kareda began her role as director of the Estonian Music Information Centre (EMIC).

“Estonian music is a national treasure. The Estonian Music Information Centre gathers and promotes information about Estonian music creators and performers, building a bridge between music and the world. I felt a call to join EMIC and enhance this bridge, making it more visible, resonant, and inclusive in our rapidly changing world,” said Saale Kareda.

Saale Kareda is a musicologist, journalist, translator, and editor, as well as a member of the Estonian Musicological Society (since 1992) and the Estonian Composers’ Union (since 2006). She studied at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Goethe Institute in Bremen, the Technical University of Berlin, the University of Vienna, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She held scholarships in Berlin (DAAD, 1999/2000) and Vienna (Herder-Preis, 2000/2001). She was the music editor for Teater.Muusika.Kino from 1993–1999, a musicology consultant for the publishing house Universal Edition in Vienna from 2001–2007, and cultural attaché at the Estonian Embassy in Vienna from 2005–2012. Since returning to Estonia in 2012, Kareda has worked mainly as a freelancer and served as a lecturer in sound aesthetics at Tallinn University (2012–2018).
