From February 4, compositions premiered in 2024 can be nominated for the LHV New Composition Award Au-tasu 2025. The winner will receive a €6,000 prize along with a glass trophe by Mare Saare. Submissions are open to music ensembles, organizations, and individuals worldwide until March 4 via the Estonian Music Days (EMP) website.
The award will be presented on April 25 at an Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ENSO) concert in the Estonia Concert Hall, as part of the Estonian Music Days festival (April 25 – May 4). This year’s theme, “SADA / 100”, marks the centennial of the Estonian Composers’ Union, featuring 20+ world premieres performed by top Estonian ensembles and soloists. Concerts will be available in hybrid format across Tallinn, Tartu, and Laulasmaa, both in person and via EMP TV broadcasts.
Established in 2016, the LHV New Composition Award Au-tasu is a major recognition for Estonian composers and contemporary music. Last year, 42 works by 33 composers were submitted. The 2024 award went to Madli Marje Gildemann’s Nocturnal Migrants (premiered at Austria’s ORF Musikprotokoll festival by Klangforum Wien). A special mention was given to Liisa Hirsch’s Earth Veins. Previous winners include Liisa Hirsch, Toivo Tulev, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Helena Tulve, Märt-Matis Lill, Rasmus Puur, Jüri Reinvere, and Ülo Krigul.
To submit a work, complete the nomination form. Full contest details are available on the Estonian Music Days website, and an overview of last year’s premieres can be found via the Estonian Music Information Centre.
